Stopped also at West Thomaston and went through the States Prison. In the Shoe Making room, a good looking young fellow rose from his Seat and came out to speak to me, caused quite a, almost fuss among keepers overseers & Wardens, as no prisoner is allowed to rise or speak. It was a young fellow committed from Bangor, by name of Henry Porter, true name A.C. Smith of Augusta. I do not know whether he had ever seen me, I did not know him. It was probably a sudden attack of insanity although the Wardens said he had never before manifested it, and his behavior had been unexceptional. They soon quieted him, and 'I came away then'. Stopped 2 or 3 hours in Waldoboro', a thrifty new town of Much Shipbuilding. 10 Vessals lay on the stocks all together, 18 building in the town. Stopped Friday night in Wiscasset, a very old, & very fine looking town. Got to Brunswick Sat. noon. Fare $2.00 Way expenses about $2.00 more.

Commencement has been perhaps fully as good as usual. Tuesday 3 1/2 P.M. Oration before Peucinian Society by Rev. Henry E. Prentiss of New Bedford, Subject, Integrity of Literature, an excellent performance. By Integrity he meaned wholeness, perfectness, truth, spoke principally of literature of U.S. For Commencement itself I will send you Order that Eve. Oration before Athenaean Soc. by Peleg. W. Chandler of Boston younger brother of Squire Chandler of Foxcroft.
