Which should you call the most "Eloquent" man, these antecedents should be exchanged Henry B. Sargent of Milo, or Rufus Choate? Isaiah Rider of Brownville, or Saml. N, Blake of Bangor? The question of the "origin of Government", or as you say, the "right to Govern" is one of the greatest which the human mind can grasp at. It is too mighty for me. I dare not meddle with it. I cannt on the threshold get over the stumbling block of the Non resistant, No Government, Communist. I can see no "right" to govern by the right of God. If he has delegated this Authority, of which however I am not decided, to whom? To Oliver Cromwell, to the king, konig, Cunning, able man. the divine right of kings is a far easier step than the right of the people to govern themselves. If "people" have the right they certainly have not the disposition or the ability. As you say the human mind shrinks from responsibility, cannot, willnot, depend upon itself. the Cunning, able man, Oliver, Andrew, must "take the responsibility;" must govern. What right is his? divine? Who made him Cunning? his fellows the voters? No. they may make George & Lewis, Martin & James, & John Tyler too but they do not make the true kind, do not make Pitt, Woolsey, or Cromwell. Matrimony I think it a good plan for a young man to get married; and where circumstances are in any degree favorable, to get married early; earlier than the age to which both you and I have now arrived. If my circumstances had been favorable, had been as favorable as yours have been, I think I should at least have tried before this time. At about twenty or twenty one years of age, or as soon thereafter as may be; a young man's place, situation business, proposed line of life, should be settled, definitely decided upon; Immediately after he should endeavor to select a partner to walk with him through the journey of life, to divide the cares & double the joys of the weary pilgrimage
