the merciful dealings of our Heavenly Father 'who doeth all things well', and who as our past experience can testify, has been ever better to us than our fear, often better than our hopes. My last letter from Lucy was dated Aug. 9th; She mentioned riding to Mount Hope a few days before, making several calls on her return, that Dr. Rich had been consulted about her weak back and limbs. Mother writes that he and Dr. Mc Ruen think the nerve of the spine affected; I want she should try the water cure faithfully and not medicine. I am anxiously expecting a letter from Lucy to hear all the particulars respecting her own as well as Samuel's health. Had a good long letter from Almeda two or three weeks since. the first she has written me since I left - mine last winter to Charles and Albina, still remains unanswered. A. wrote that several at Milo have recently united with the church, among them her Lucy, that Mr. Partridge was acceptable, and some steps taking by Universalists and other to build a Union Church. Charles' crops are good, himself and family in their usual health.
It is sabbath to day and pouring rain, I did not go out this morning but intend to , this afternoon if I can without being drenched I grudge to lose one of Mr. Tinkers' sermons; all other preachers that I have heard here, seem tame and common place in comparison with him. I suppose any sermons you will hear there, will seem little better than none. Have you any literary privileges?
