Mitchells Room I.C.R.R.Depot Ducoign Perry Co. Illinois Sabbath Afternoon Feb. 8th 1857 My Beloved Yesterday we had no mail; there was no Passenger on Mail Trains from the North. At one o'clock this morning it came along at last, and left an open Mail bag with a few letters. To day noon the Night train got along, and brought Abram Mitchell; and between us we took the liberty to ransack the old open Mail bag; and to my extreme delight brought to view your letter of Wednesday Feb. 4th. Nothing from me since the Saturday before. It is too bad the way the Mails work. However if the Mails ever do get through and you get all the letters there will be enough of them. This last week I I mailed to you five letters, the week before four letters, and I guess as many every week since I left home. Wait, I will consult my memoranda. I left home Jan. 7 I have already mailed to you twenty one letters! I declare. I pity you, now I reflect upon it, to have such a mass to read. It is well they do not all come at once or I do not know what you would do. However I shall keep on at any rate, just for my own pleasure in writing to you.
