Sacrifices were as universally prevalent in America as in the old world, where they had spread over all countries. It must have sprung there from an origin of positive institution. There is nothing in nature that points it out or conjoins it; & no doubt it last came from the sacrifice made by Noah, a his disembarkation from the ark, on the forebence of the grand cataclysmal, or deluge: (Gen: Ch VIII.v.20.
