The school term closed last week & Miss Smith the teacher from Westfield who boarded with us has returned home not to come back. she decides though there was an universal desire for her to do so. She has been a very pleasant inmate of our family & her influence & example very beneficial to the girls. nevertheless it is quite agreeable for us to be again alone for a time I have had a seamstress here a week or so, & the contents of my workbasket have sensibly diminished. The Ladies of our Society are making some extra efforts this summer in which of course I must do my part; the daughter of a Home Missionary near us expects in a short time to go to India. she is to marry a son of the late Dr. Laudden. this young lady (Miss Tracy) formerly taught at Seminary here so we are making up a present for her underclothes &c which are to be made our Sewing Society has met every week, most of the time & the members besides take garments home to make, besides this we have had another call for plying the needle quite unexpected. Our Pastor (Mr. Wilbur) was about a month ago, blessed with a pair of fine boys & as their mother had made only decent preparations for the advent of one the counterpart of his wardrobe had to be at once procured (as a gratuity) & you
