Written upside down at top: Lucy is nicely Sam'l " idly Jenny " happy

Own Dear Daughter - Isaac says I must write a little to you but I have but little time & less of Idea's that are good for any thing only I'll correct some of his naughty saying, he dont mean zackly that L is dull only that she is not Sprightly like some girls - but shes very goodhearted & clever - he says I do all the hard work I can - I dont do nothing hardly We have had no preaching any where in this town the 2 or 3 months - but we have some little prospect now of having a Missionary sent here - we have Society Meetings at the Corner & prayer meeting, Sabbath evenings - but few attend - * Isaac writes to a young Lady in Dunbarton I dont know what the ultimate consequences may be - *and Eliab talks about Miss Sarah Stone you are acquainted with her would she be a suitable person for him to endeavor to cultivate an acquaintance with he seems to be thinking considerable about the girls but it seems to be all the girls as near as I can find out

in different handwriting - Isaac's handwriting:

  • Note - such Statements are to be taken "cum grans sale" and much allowance. Sarah Stone is a nice girl besides and I am a nice man in spite of Dunbarton & my relations
