31 going to carry on the business for the present - went to School until 4 o'clock - could not study very well - took leg bail and started on a walk across the river - found "Mrs. Syppy" so wet and sloshy that I thought it would not pay - turned back and found two class mates in the same fix - we all went up to the Gas works which were in operation 2 days and then frose up - found Capt - who used to board where I do - he showed us around the premises - how gas was made &c - we then seperated and it being nearly tea time I went to the House - after tea to the College - Mr Adams I find is somewhat inclined to hard stop out West. he even asked me how I would like his business he's getting old and tired of business. and somewhat out of health - but I am not prepared to enter into any arrangements of that kind until I see how my health is to be - I think however that I am improving quite fast. and when I go home I can tell whether I will go into business there or out here. -

a beautifully pleasant day overhead and the streets are beautifully muddy - took a long walk this morning and feel much better for it - did not go to School. - think I am sticking rather too closely - sent off a check to L Andrews & Co New York and one to Osgood & Smith Indianapolis. - he seems to want me to do all his business in this line - P.M. went to school until 4 oclock wrote a letter to a south Dedham friend - had an introduction to a Mr. Ballou who is soliciting aid for a Universalist school in Galesburg - also to N E Bartlett who was formerly from So. Walpole and is acquainted with a great many people in Walpole and Dedham and who seems to be a fine man. -
