difference in Oregon, would it? You know they taxed me ever so much for "Advanced Standing, because I entered in advance, Tuition for previous year &c. that I have never paid, though likely I might finally get rid of it, but the President tells me this term that it is impossible; it must be paid. So as no one can receive a degree with any demands due on College Termbills, I suppose I must pay it, or not graduate. I hardly think though that I shall pay it! I have been writing something to the boys about the settlement of the affairs there at Milo. I think it ought to be attended to and all ought to help advise how it can be done. I fear it is likely to be a difficult affair. I like our studies this term year better than any before. They are different branches of Natural History Physiology, Geology, Mineralogy &c. also Dr. Wayland's Moral Science, which I think will be still more interesting than Upham, Butler or Paley. Please excuse this very hastily written letter and I really wish you would try to write in return, soon Yr. Aff. Br. I.S. Metcalf
