Mrs Root Du Quoin ILL Du Quoin Dec 8th 1863
My dear Mrs Metcalf I thank you for your very kind letter - I thank you for your remembrance & sympathy - I am always to glad to see Mr Metcalf - it reminds me of happyer days - when my children were around about me - Oh how much grace I need to say "Thy will be done" - sometimes I think my heart says it - I know that God means all this for my good - tho He takes all - it will be but a few days before I shall follow - & then - - - oh & then shall we meet on that land where the weary are at rest - This pleasant weather Anna seems so much better - Our home for this winter is at our old place - we are boarding with a pleasant family - the care of keeping house was too much for me It is rather lonely - tho our DuQuoin friends call often - dear ones they are
on side: You cant think how much good your kind letter did me - I am so ready to despond - to distrust have mercy oh God on my unbelief farewell dear friend & forget not to pray for your ever friend S Root
