What I want now, is to get just the right sort of a winter school, I should like me to begin as soon as Nov 1st, so as to continue four months and then get through by the beginning of the spring term. I ought to get as much as $25,00 or 30,00 per month this winter, especially as I do nothing this fall. Very probably I should not get more than $20 though. I am not quite so well off as some, about being acquainted with good schools, where they pay high wages. Perhaps I could get a school at Bangor, but those schools are not long enough, nor high enough. I wrote Joseph a long account of the Masonic ceremonies at the laying the Cornerstone of 'Kings Chapel' here, July 16th, I will pass it by now. Did Charles make a good trade in steers? Will his beef sell well, for money? I am afraid that Charles does not begin easy enough with that red colt, give her her own way enough at first. That is what I believe in. Where does Almeda get her money to hire haying? I wish I could work. It provokes me the idea of such bills as $8,00 or 10,00 to be for mischief & expenses of cattle. It is too bad. One thing Crosby is not a very good neighbor, and the occasion ought not to be. Such bills as that must be most serious to a farmer. Mr Sewall was here a while ago. He went state conference at Ryebury then to the White Mountains, stopped a week or two at Topsham on way back. He called over to the College twice. I would have called over there, but I hardly knew the way, and I thought he did not invite very heartily. Our class books for junior year cost very high, some 20,00 or 25 new 4 or 5 of the books cost 3, or 4 dolls apiece. I have brought considerable part of them secondhand very cheap. All will cost me not more than 7, to 9, I am going to change my room mate for next year, I hope you will write again soon, early next week so that I could write before I go home if necessary. What shall I do for a winter school.
