But very different from this is the earnestness which the Bible Commends. All true religious impulse finds its motive and guidance in the Word of God.

I Let us now consider, first, its necessity - crossed out the necessity for such an impulse. Nothing of importance has ever been done in the kingdom of this world or in that of Christ without well directed earnestness. I do not mean bluster, or pretention, or noise, but a persevering and animated spirit engaging the heart and mind and body alike in an activity corresponding with the importance of the object sought.
