Owensboro Davis Cty Ky

24th Augt. 1851

Mr. Kendal:

                       Dr Sir,
I made somewhat ineffectual efforts to see you last March when you passed thro' Louisville, but the shortness of your stay prevented. I was on the eve of going to Mt. Washington when I heard thro' Mr. Hamilton that you would be in Lou e that evening bur for the short stay you made at the Hotel, I was disappointed in seeing you.

The object of this communication is to know if you are at present engaged, & if not could you be induced to take charge of a regular school in Owensboro. The society of town & vicinity is perhaps equal to any in the State, at least south of Louisville & the prospects for a school very fair. I merely throw out these hints to ascertain your future intentions. I shall be happy to hear from you as soon as possible.

                                                                                                                        Most resp. yours
                                                                                                In haste, N? J. Duke
                                                           Duke
