Monday, 7. Pleasant day but it is raining to night. Rec'd papers of the 1st but no additional news. There is a rumor that a portion of Longstreet's command has been captured. So [[unclear]] it be! Recd a letter from Bro Darius & I answered it by enclosing him $20.00 & promised to give him the position of [[First?]] Steward -- Disappointed !!! | Monday, 7. Tuesday, 8. Cool rain & unpleasant. No rain to day though it rained the greater part of the night. Spent an unpleasant night. Got up and arrested two men for having fires in their tents.
