Mr Badger New York Sept 8

Thursday Sept 3rd

This is my reception day -- I have headache -- Mrs Goodridge called. also Mrs G. Hall. Mrs E. G. Hall. I refused all. Licinia came to see me -- after tea Mr Badger played billiards

Friday Sept 4th

I went out a little to day -- we all well -- received letters from home -- at two O. clock I took all my children, and Brother Hilton Wife & four children all went with us to the Circus to see the trained Monkeys and dogs. Mr A. Bigelow came to see us --

Saturday Sept 5th

All day the wind has been high. at four O. clock a fire commenced on state street back of our house -- it swept a long distance consuming many houses -- then crossed the street and burned to the ground many on the opposite side -- then the flames swepted? over our stable and I then sent to the Office for my husband who came right up. but our stable by that time was in flames -- the firemen worked nobly and very soon subdued it -- and we escaped without any other damage than the loss of stable and much dirt. my friends were very alarmed and rushed in and begged me to pack up -- but I was not much frightened and did very little -- my children were very much alarmed and cry very much -- Miss Carter rushed in and insisted upon my letting her pack up everything. Mr James Miller and Rev ?oney were very active -- and did all they could Mrs Bronson carried off the children to her house. all was confusion -- many have suffered and lost all they had -- most of the houses were frame -- and burned like tinder -- we allowed one family to put their things in our basement and gave them supper -- all the firemen Mr Badger treated to whiskey. after tea Father Badger Mother Badger Aunt Lizzie & Ella came to see us --
