learned this morning that the rebs accepted the terms and that we will enter the town to day.  White flags went up before ten.  Called at [unclear] McPherson and afterward in company with llieut Rousen entered the town as the head of 2 Brigade.  [unclear] the court himself and saw the damage done by our shot shell which was very [unclear] A glorious 4th July.

July 5th Embarked at 8 A.M. in steamer Dilligent for Youngs Point  Rode from there to Mil Bend  arrived about noon  nothing very new or strange__ All rejoicing at the news  Firing heard in the direction of the Yahoo  Find my boy Pete very sick.
