Monday Dec 21st 1862
This has been a curious day.  it is like April sunshine & shower -  it is quite warm.  Mattie Sheridan spending the day with us.  Virginia & I went down town to buy Christmas gifts --  May Bowles came to get us to give her some toys for the Orphans.  I gave her two dollars and Virginia gave her five cry dolls.  Sister Belle & children doing as well as could be expected.  my children went to Hunts to dancing school.  David * I went over after them -  children went to see the Adams children -

Saturday continued

Ada danced a hornpipe well. Sheridan wore a Zouave dress full of gilt buttons on pants & shirt - he looked fine - he is only over three years old and danced a fancy dance - the Polka he also danced all the Quadrilles - without mistake - after we returned home children went to Prathers to Tea.
