| We began our movements toward the left and arrived in the evening at a place known as [[unclear]] Plank Roads near the [[Wilton?]] Rail Road. Here our battalion advanced as skirmishers, having moved through a [[unclear]] of woods we were in plain view of the enemy's position. Captain Farwell [[Harwell?]] was evidently somewhat intoxicated. We took our position in the edge of the woods and dug pits where we remained all night. We had thus far lost only three men in this more. About daylight four pieces of artillery were brought up and took position on the left of our battalion and between it and the third brigade. As has been before stated just on our right was a strong fort but there was no [[unclear]] opened toward us. During the entire [[unclear]] we could see the rebels digging [[unclear]] and preparing the fort for piling down our lines. meanwhile a few rebel soldiers were seen moving about in [[unclear]] front at one [[time?]] going to the right at another to the left, but our right was threatened by this fort and maneuvers seems to indicate that they intended attacking us there.
