Success ne'er shone exulting in thine eye And no poor object went unheeded by Beauty ne'er made thee vain, nor titles* proud Gifts these to captivate the meaner crowd In thee humility was awful grace And all thy mind sat pictured in thy face. Religious, moral, tender, and sincere A hand to give, a heart to drop a tear In misery's cause.... In thy lamented end The world has lost a gem - the poor a friend.
