I have neglected to write for some time and will have to put my [[unclear]] together. After we returned to Chicago the children went to many picnics and we attended one at Mrs Guyer's farm it was delightful. Attended one also give by Mr and Mrs Barney. Found all our family in health. Sister Virginia went to Louisville and took my boy Shreve with her. In July my sister Mrs TT Shreve and family arrived from Louisville. In their party was Mr Shreve, wife, three children and nurse Rosa, Mr and Mrs Faulds and two children. We had many pleasant days together. Mr and Mrs Faulds returned after a visit of two weeks in Aug. Mr Badger with all our family and nurse, Mr Shreve and family and nurse, Alice (english girl) also Mattie Faulds all left Chicago with all the Hilton family and Adrian [[unclear]]. All went to Lake Superior, spent most of the time at Marquette. We boarded at the Tremont Hotel in Marquette, the Hiltons boarded at the Jackson House. Spent a day at Green Bay and a few hours at Escanaba. Itw as too late to visit Macinaw. We met pleasant friends at Marquette. The [[Dhens?]] and John L. Wilson's family were there and Mr. Chas Wilson, who made our time pass pleasantly. AFte we returned home Mr Shreve and family spent several weeks with us and then returned to Louisville. Mr. Badger received a dispatch saying his Uncle James Stanwoood was ill and to come to Portsmouth at once this was the 26th Sept.
I have neglected to write for some time and [[?]] have to put many events together - after we returned to Chicago the children went to more picnics and we attended at Mrs. Ginger [[?]] Larson it was delightful.
 
Another dispatch thought him a little easier. A dispatch was also sent to his wife in Louisiana. She arrived here with her three children and nurse Maria who is sick.
 
Sept 26
 
Mr Badger and Mr Shreve's family all left tonight for Louisville with my Ada with them. We really feel sad to lose so many. Mr Badger arrived back from Louisville on the 7th Oct.
 
Oct 12
 
Today Mr Badger had another dispatch to come on to see Mr Stanwood die. Mrs Stanwood left here for to see her husband, only taking her boy [[Henry?]] with her.
