were authorized to decide; - whether they do, or do not, among the Cherokees of North Carolina & its neighborhood, reach nearly a million of dollars; - and whether they are not still heavier elsewhere?
And, eleventh and last, - an account of the compensation paid to the commissioners under the 17th article; and to persons employed under them; and an answer to the questions, whether, although the liability of the United States for the expences of that commission was recognized by separate & distinct acts, the appropriations solely for the Cherokees were not also used to cover similar expenditures? And whether an appropriation of eight thousand dollars, by an act of March 3, 1839, for the purpose of paying some of the expences, was not carried wholly unused to the surplus fund; and whether ithad been previously ascertained that the expences for which congress intended the appropriation thus transferred, should provide, - were pain in whole, or in part, or to a great extent, out of Cherokee moneys?
