As young cavalrymen we enjoyed an uncommon advantage in witnessing the "Setting up" and mounting of the 2d Cavalry.  There was probably never a better official regiment placed in the field.  The subsequent history of most of its officers became sufficiently remarkable to justify me in recalling some of their names.  Its Colonel
