<p>[illegible] the 52nd will soon be at home, I should like much to be there and rejoice with you over Seth's return, for I have heard nothing but what he is [well?] of late, But Providence wills it otherwise and I will rejoice when I hear the news. It does seem that the rebellion is getting its death blows now (the words "[illegible] defeated" inserted above) the Miss. [opened?], Bragg retreating, and will probably make no stand at Chatanooga, may God speed the right. Will you ask [Ellridge?] if he got that book I sent for, if not, tell him he need not, as it is doubtful about its coming through.I have had this [illegible] writing this letter, this forenoon, and now it is about six p.m. You must excuse the writing made the circumstances, Give my love to all; I have not seen James since we started.
