     Two months ago I heard from the Dolphin editor at Doubleday, who wanted to know whether they should publish [[underlined:  The Disinherited]] in that series.  (I'm "Consultant in American Literature" for Anchor.  What a title!)  I wrote back strongly urging Dolphin to publish it, but they finally decided not to on the grounds that they could not be sure to sell 10,000 copies right off the bat.  Maybe not that soon could they do it, but I'd argued that the book would be valuable for the courses in
