Dear Dr. Conroy,

I'm afraid I'm only a professor-emeritus living in exile in Austin (a comely warm town). I was delighted by your letter in spite of the bad news about Gladys' and your health (since rectified, I trust). I heard also of Bud's death, and ... It seems as though we're hit pretty hard at our age. But the alternative I don't anticipate.
I delighted in your reviews and parts of the autobiography which brought back fond memories of my first visit to Moberly - a mere critic taken as friend by the author of underlined: the Disinherited and underlined: A World to Win. And now as still I do in spite of disaster.
I'm getting in touch with David Ray. The issue on Conroy I've not read but he must have it with him. Take care, you 2. Maybe we'll see you in Moberly - or you here - before Sugar Creek. We're for medical study or cremation - postponed as long as possible
