1968 Labor Day Apdo 633 Cuernavaca, Mor -1, Mexico
Dear Jack Conroy:
Your DISINHERITED meant a great deal to me, not only on its own strength, its own life force, but
because I came from that world, too. Although I was brought up on a farm, I went seeking work in the Thirties: ranch, factory, restaurant, a few mines, and finally construction. Your people, your family, your wanderings and conclusions are real to this reader. I look forward to reading whatever else you care to write. Stories? Memories? Autobiographies? whatever, you've got one eager reader waiting to go to work on your pages!
I hope to be in Chicago in Sept, possibly October, and I'd like to visit you some afternoon when you're not
teaching and writing. (I guess you teach? I don't, I'm still a proletarian, with a pen, these days). I lived and struggled in Chicago, wrote about it, but haven't sold it yet. We could talk about the old days. By the way, I gave your DISINHERITED to Mr. Traven, who read it and liked it. His world!
If you care to write me % Box 16141, Houston 22, Texas, giving me yr address, I could let you know when I'm
coming to Chicago area.
Best wished for you & your family of words. Sincerely,
