Deer - 1st -
Deer - 1st - By merely shooting them down in day light with the Rifle; this is deer-stalking, and hunters generally get up to the game from 80 to 100 yds others fire when they can discover plainly the eye of the animal.  When game is scarce then dogs are employed to scent them.  Deer if not badly wounded X

2 - by fire-hunting.  this is performed by one person carrying an iron pan basket filled with burning pitch-pine with which they shine the eyes of the deer, & thus are enabled to shoot the deer in the darkest nights -
3.  To watch near their trail as they go to water - this is called Driving
4.  To hunt them with Stag or Fox or Grey Hounds, the hunt seldom exceeds two  hours
5.  To shoot them by making a "Salt lick'.  For this purpose the hunter fills a small hole
