About the middle of June I left N. Orleans on the 93 'New York Schooner' It is about 100 miles to the S.W. Pass of the Mississippi, & from 30 to 36 hours as an average run across the Gulf to Galveston. It is invigorating indeed to get to Sea after being pent up in New Orleans for any length of time & a delightful change ^is the tesedaner? on the island of Galveston.
