Average depth of river about here 10 feet - deep pools - rocky bottom - falls occasionally - rises perhaps 6 to 8 feet moves constant stream - very few fords - waters cool - passed one range of hills - undulating country we think we are below watershed & some 8 or 10 miles below the sources or springs of the Leona. This river does not increase in width much during its course - average width 30 to 40 feet - & at the mouth is more like a canal than a river, with banks only 3 or 4 feet |
