He applied himself to Major Gookin desiring of him a pass to goe into the woods to seek for his children & endeavor to get them out of the enimies hand, Alledging that his affections were so great to his children (their mother being dead) & hee in a widowed estate was willing to venture his life amont the enimy in order to the recovery of his children (and posibly said here if God spare my life I may bring you some inteligense of the residence & state of the enimy which may bee very usfull to the English. those Arguments prevaled with the major (who had also special order from the Councill to endevor to gaine inteligence of the enimy). to grant a pass or certificate, to the said Job. In the words following "these may certify that the "Bearer hereof Job of Magunkog is a trusty "Indian, & therefore if any Englishman meet "him it is as a friend he will not misuse him, but "secure him & convay him to the Gouevinor or "myself & they shall satisfied for their "paines dated this 13 of the 9 month 1675 by the signed.
