15 The Cherokees think much of dreams, signs &c. Permit me give their interpretation of a few. To dream of seeing any person going towards the west is a sign that that person is soon to die. To dream of seeing any one with eagles feathers in his hand, or to dream of having such feathers, is a sign of mortality. To dream of seeing a house burning is a sign that one or more will soon die in the house. To dream of seeing any one going down a stream of high water is a sign that that person will soon die. To dream of hearing any persons singing and dancing is a sure sign they will soon die. In case some one of the family is sick, to dream of a stream of low clear water is a sure sign the sick person will recover, but to dream of a stream rising & full, either the sick person, or another in the family is to be very sick.
