I can't understand why I never heard from Stone. I wrote a short letter requesting the use of his name as reference & asking about schools & living conditions in N.Y. He offered to recommend me for an assistantship at the U. of Michigan so surely it can't be that he was insincere to that extent in his compliments of my work. I saw the write-up of "Cherry Orchard in the Times & wondered if you had seen it. Was it as "refreshingly free of traditional encumbrances" as they said? | |||

I've been looking for classified adv's in the Times here & it finally dawned on me that that section is not mailed to Montana. How provincial can we get here! | |||
