Afternoon went to see Count de [?] & family 10 Miles out up the Bayoou - found them in a most miserable plight - sulky & disgusted - The Count though of [?] a plantation has a[2 unclear words] someone in charge - [?] & comes here occasionally - these are too dry lands for Cotton & not wet enough for general farming & more particularly with lands of a ranchman the [?] here was distressing [two unclear words] - | |||
He has only been seen 30 miles West to the [?] & up to LaGrange - And has come to the conclusion that "Texas is one bayou marsh - & some [?] with water in them "! - Ridiculous - [?Fisher?] to accompany me to the West - | |||
