With his support an ambitious project was launched which provided for the study, under hospital conditions, of hypertension as it occurred in the toxemias of pregnancy, that stormy and often fatal complication of the last trimester. There the cause of hypertension was definitely related to the pregnancy, hence probably to the hormonal changes characteristic of pregnancy.
