The night was beautiful, the great heat of the day was past & the cool & refreshing breezes from the South were invigorating indeed. a fire was soon kindled, the coffee pot was called into requisition, each cut a twig and boiled his strip of dried beef & with corn bread & cheese, et voila! [[notn?]] souper. Each took his pipe, the evening chat was soon over, our horses watered & then hobbled, buffalo robes & blankets spread and now, good night.
