It would appear that the powerful force of the Mexican marching army is at Montery about 10 000 strong - Al Moncton say [?] 3000 - From these places Arista sent his proclamation into [?] of which no one could believe a word/
It would appear that the powerful force of the Mexican marching army is at Montery about 10 000 strong - Al Moncton says [?] 3000 - From these places Arista sent his proclamation into [?] of which no one could believe a word/ with some 6 to 700 men and those disarmed - to Spy into our readiness for War - According to their reports & our belligerent Manifestations Arista will not - He may march with his whole force - & if he does those that we have already in the field will thrash him - We may lose some few but the Victory will be ours [?] up & doing - by land & sea & all that can result in my poor opinion is to keep us a hot [?] & their finest the getting in at the [?] - some of them we have already - Our fleet under Commodore [?] is to the South - We are watching the coast with our Small but very efective [sic] squadrons.  Our land forces & volunteers muster pretty strong along the San Antonio & [?] of that [?] - and doubtless our friends on the Mississippi are forming in to operations - and it [?] not be a matter of astonishment if one fine morning the Texas Flag [?shows up here?] floating over Monterey - & what may follow if a muster strong enough may surprise the west [?] of Santana himself
 
Wednesday 23rd  Accompd Capt Wade & others in 'Washington' to Corpus Christi - had to beat down - [?] land for S.E. arrived at 3.30 PM - High bluff land - Saw [?] Kenney & Aubrey - & the rest of the inhabitants - (? Holmes & Hopkins?) Carver & his party, had been for some time acting as a Guard to this place - they had gone out against the wish of the people here - & were found by a party of Mexicans under [?] asleep in the Middle of the day & Killed them - Cameron only escaping - [?] having an old spite against [?] [?] has gone off to the Army & will make his report - [?] effects abou 18 inches C. Cristi 2 papers the N the one short & narrow 4 ½ to 5 ft there is no water in it.  Aransas 8 to 10 ft - Anibaje at [?] full We made that out to chance away & then C. Christi to Bay could be rendered navigable
