Poor Fred is haveing a severe trial with his eyes; since the last letter he wrote to you, just before we started for this place, he has not been able to use is eyes at all, either to read or write; they are so painful and inflamed. I was very sick for ten days, before we left New York, with fever and Rheumatic severe pains, all over my body. As soon as the Doctor got the fever under control, he insisted upon dear Freds takeing me right out of the extreme heat of the City. I felt I was not able to stand the fatigue of traveling yet, and beged to be allowed to stay home, until I felt stronger. But our friends were comeing and Fred wished to have the pleasure of traveling with them, up to this Mountain resort. I was taken very much worse on the steam boat that night, and was very sick during four days and nights, and am now only just able to go down stairs once a day. I do not gain my strength at all in spite of the braceing, cool, Mountain air; that blows all the time, through our rooms.
