Left S.F. at 9 to take 9.30 train for Los Angeles Have a beautiful car - that of the president of the road & travel in style. The servants are excellent & we are served sumptuously. Very hot & dusty in the San Joaquin Valley -- Miles of wheat. Big ferry boat Genl & Judge went to bed early. I sat till 11 pm talking with a Mr Bridger a civil engineer & ex-officer of Vols.
