Let me see, I believe your friends' husband Mr Hatch, is from New Gloucester, & an intimate friend of my Classmate & friend Jonathan Greenleaf Ereleth of New Gloucester, Maine. I see in the newspapers, that said J.G.E.l has lately invented a sort of Iron pavement for city streets, & sold out the rights for $100.000.00 Pretty well for the chap -- considering that he was poor as dirt, and we did not consider him very smart either!

has only just within a few days got about. Friday last went down to Muddy for the first time. Mr Abram Mitchell has quite a sick time; a regular Billious Fever -- is yet unable to sit up at all. Dr says however that the fever has left him a day or two now, and he has nothing to do but get well at once; but he has go so reduced that it will doubtless be slowly. Crosby & the east are very well -- as also Post & Rowley: Smith with Harry Mitchell, as I wrote you probably, started East just after the 15th of July. Wish I did -- May be this Letter may find Mother with you at Dunbarton. If so. advise her by all means to go to Ohio. I know that the travelling will be good for her. Mother thought one of Charles' reasons for remaining here through the summer -- that peaches would be ripe here by & bye -- quite ridiculous, when his wife was so anxious to see him at home. Well tell her he has got finely paid for it; there is, & is likely to be, no peaches here this year. Mother says that I am to bring you & Mayo there again this Fall. What think of it! Mother is afraid she will not hear from Charles & me unless she is at Milo. She need not be. I will write to her, if I only know where she is. I believe I do not go to Church today. Thermometer 94 degrees F. at 9 A.M. Likely to be the hottest day yet. My wagon is undergoing repairs, & it is altogether to bad for horseback.
