Mrs Gambold attended to the instruction of the Indian children with peculiar interest & the fruits of her exertions to make them acquainted with their Creator & Redeemer, his Love & His comandments were soon visible. The children wee instructed in Engl. reading & writing, as well as in domestic & agricultural concerns. Their Friend James Vann, who had promoted their temporal well being, in every possible Manner terminated his existance Feb 18th 1809 at Mr Thos Buffingtons house, where he fell by the hand of an enemy. In consequence of this unhappy affair the situation of the Missionaries became rather doubtfull, but their friend Charles Hicks comforted them, by encouraging them to persevere in their Missionary's work & assured them of his influence in the National Council.
