Is it a fact that you do not even have a Newspaper there. You ought to have some books also. The books there are all so ? few are worth reading nowadays. I wish I could carry you home some. Here a great trouble is so many We have perhaps 20000 to volumes to select reading from.
As for my clothing, I intend to dress well in future whether or not, that is decently, or rather, always have one decent suit. Clothing does make an odds, there is no mistake about that. I found it at Turner when I went there I had a new coat, & could dress decently. I have changed my Chum this year. First year I roomed with Wm. M. Baker of Belfast, a beneficiary of the Ed. Soc. A good fellow & fine scholar. We joined different Societies all round. He is a Peucinian & a VV. We thought best to separate. The VV wished him to go with them, room with one of them who needed steadying, & a good scholar at his elbow! My Chum this year is Sam'l W. Hatch of Bowdoinham, 12 miles from here. A Methodist, going to be a Methodist Minister, and a stout one too, if he lives and has his health. He a Peucinian, but a Brother DKE Delta Kappa Epsilon. Mr. Chickering of Portland preached here yesterday, most excellent sermons, adapted for Students too, did them good. The new church is to be Dedicated next Wednesday March 18th It is the most splendid affair in the state. I never saw it like. How I wish you could only just see it. I expect the Dedication will be a great day. Wonder if the big house will be filled. I wrote to Joseph requesting if convenient that he or some one would send me $10,00, as I am entirely out.
