I believe the cold weather here comes on Sunday. I wrote you what kind of weather it was last Sunday I believe. Monday was as bad, the snow did not melt away until Tuesday. After that it was quite comfortable weather. Thursday morning I went up to Centralia, and only returned from there on last night Mr Mason, with Mr Watson &c and Mr M Brayman Solicitor & money for ILL Central R.R also, came down with me: but did not stop here. All going down to Jonesboro to spend Sabbath. Will probably be back here on Monday sometimes. Saturday it began to be cold again and this morning everything every thing is frozen up as hard as you please. It was not very early when I got up & had my breakfast this morning. And then I found it so cold in office that I took my writing materials and came over here to the boarding house, and sit here by the coal fire to write. The room is not very large, but tolerably well filled. There are 10 or 12 boarders who are pretty likely to be around the fire on a morning like this. Then the family is not inconsiderable, and when the work is done up they are glad to come in to sit in this room. Perhaps I had better introduce you to the family.
