We have watched much for letters lately & have heard very little.  Your kind letter came last evening  thank you very much for writing.  I have feared & hoped all along since I got home, but feared the most  Oh! how can we spare dear Lucy!  It seems as if I could not have it so.  I desire not to be rebellious or [unclear] at the will of my heavenly Father  He doeth all things well  but Lucy the darling of us all always ministering so much happiness to us all   so much needed to her dear ones, it is hard to let her go . How easy it is for us to appropriate our blessings to ourselves so as to forget that 'we are not our own' that all we have should be held in trust, & yielded up unreservedly as our Father in infinite wisdom sees best.  I was
