than I could wish--& it is with reluctance I have consented to the imperative necessity of circumstances. Mrs Hopkins people (my home & protectors) are obligated to move from this house by the first of next month. They are not certain of finding any other & may be obliged to board for they can as yet find none - my position too in the present rate of things is just such as to be more embarrassing the longer I stay; Emily too, can remain only during this month& it is very desirable for me to have one friend with me besides the family here: - the important day is not fixed though the week is: the last of this month, scarcely three weeks distant; Oh I cannot realize it - and none of my near friends present! but so it is judged best. I have written to Eliab to send me a draft for 40 or 50 dolls am going to Cleveland (24 miles) to make some purchases in a day or two - of silk, dress, gloves, &c The 'hour' proposed is to see Isaac! only think of that! I am delighted enough with it, I feel that it will be a great relief & comfort to me to have one of the family see him now, - besides the great pleasure of seeing Isaac & Nettie & the dear baby. Dr. De Witt is ten or twelve years my senior, has two little daughters 13 & 7 years old. The home to which I am going is a handsome brick house painted red, well furnished, or splendid piano, rich carpets &c every thing 'comfortable, curtains above want. The grounds attached to his house, extend back to the next street, & contains abundance of choice fruit, grapes by the barrel of rare varieties, peaches quines &c &c all this however would weigh little did not the person concerned himself to my judgement & feeling I charge you mother not to shew this letter to anybody you may tell the news it contains but I have written
