should be in vain.
Sept. 1. I wake this morning, but dear H. sleep never to wake. His eyes are closed forever on this earth. But are they not gathering rapturously on brighter and holier scenes than earth ever knew or its inhabitants ever conceived! I can but hope they are. When the archangel's trumpet shall sound, then shall we know where dwells the spirit. O life be [[?]] what mysteries they are. Who can comprehend the union of flesh and spirit or explain the wonder of this separation when death severs the uniting bond? None but the Infinite.  Fearfully and wonderfully are we made.

The events of this year have taught me many a lesson. My view of life and all that pertains to is, are greatly changed. My own life, seems passing rapidly away. Joyous childhood is gone, and the light and shadows of youth have departed and I seem now to be looking forward to lifes sober and even solemn realities. Sorrow & trial has begun its work. I knew this was a world of trial- now I begin to fee that it is such. O may I ever keep in view the great end for wh. I live, then though darkness clouds

should be in vain. Sept. O life be ? what mysteries they are.

I live, then though dark clouds
