As for what I am to do, or how I am to do it, I am sure I know not. I suppose, if I can get along no other way, I might borrow money enough to get away from Brunswick, leaving my bills all unpaid, of one of the boys; though it might perhaps be some inconvenience to them. What I am to go to doing I am sure I do not know, & cannot tell or guess. I had about made up my mind, that, now, as I had got my education and begun to be in a situation to be a little independent, that is, in degree, that I would teach school no more. I really do not like it very well, am not at all inclined to adopt teaching as a profession, or permanent business, and do not think it well to spend time, more than one can help, in any such by play. Teaching is certainly not of very much benefit as a preparation for any other occupation or mode of life, Still I may be obliged to teach a little more; if I should go West immediately I should probably have to teach at first. But I do not want to. I should like to go upon a RailRoad, to study engineering, think I should be pretty well fitted for that, and stand some chance of succeeding. But I do not know as there is much chance of my being able to make a beginning, to get into a situation. I am not
