The last day of the term I took occasion to talk a little, told them I would not say I wished any of them would stay away if they would come to learn, to try to please the teacher, obey the rules, but unless they did, the school would stand much higher without them, that they were far in the back ground compared to Eastern schools, the fault of a few, and of course such were an injury to the school. -made some of them look a little sober I thought. When the term commenced I had 37; some from a distance, smart scholars, and the three studies mentioned are higher than any in last term except Latin: Kames never studied here before,- so though somewhat troubled, Providence was better to me than my peers, but how I shall prosper next half term I do'nt know:- except ten little girls from the juvenile department which I dread: I shall have six weeks vacation last of June: my board here will cost about eleven dolls. so it will be as cheap travelling as staying here, had I best visit cousin Jerusha at Ganesville or Uncle Humphrey his family. but if I only had plenty of money how I would speed right away home to enjoy the precious time with you all, but it would take nearly all my small gains.
