My dear brother I want you should become a christian; till you decide the question whether you will serve the Saviour of the god of this world, I cannot answer your question what you had better do; now is the time for you to make your peace with God, now is time surely when you need to cry unto God 'Mr Father thou art the guide of my youth' Jer. 3:4.- You are, as it were, just launching forth upon the ocean of life:- the world with all it snares, temptations, delusions and vanities, is before you;- O how much you need God for your father, the Saviour for your friend and master, and the Holy Spirit for your guide and Comforter. Almeda's health is better, she is able to ride out, has walked to meeting once, goes up and down stairs, but has to be very careful; the children are well. I was very glad to hear by Lucy that you are in another boarding place and so good an one; endeavour to improve all the means in your power: gain an easy agreeable manner and address: seek the friendship of the truly pious;- learn the art of expressing your thoughts in conversation with ease and propriety: be sure and be neat in your dress and appearance & I think it important, if possible, that you should dress decently well; write word what clothes you are in need of, and what books you need & I will do what I can about getting them when I come.
