Dr [[insert Dr Samuel J]] Trowbridge called & went with us to visit his Daughter, who is married to Mr Petersen a German merchant here--
they live in the style peculiar to the country, but very nice. They have lovely rooms, no carpets but brick floor & rugs. They told me their house was over 250 years old & had been at one time a school or convent. Next door to them was a house with pillars which Mr. Petersen said indicates that it belonged to a noble man, as none but persons of rank are allowed to have pillars. Spent a very pleasant evening & went to bed at 10 o'clock.
