We have had bad news to day from home - Mattie Faulds has [[Fluse?]]  and very sick.  I went down street and spent some time   bought Sheridan a drab Marsailles suit Braided with black.  Belle & Eva went to the dress makers to be fit for swiss waists first time in their lives.  there has been a fearful Mob in New York.  much loss of property and life.

It is getting a little warmer.  children gone to Mr Walkers to tea I went down street with Mr Thomas.  he returned with me and stayed to tea.  Mrs Beecher called to see me.  Walter came to see us  Mattie grown worse.  very feeble.

Mrs & Miss Van Arnans came to see me.  I went down town after dinner  it rained a little.  I went with all the children to see Licinia.  I stayed all evening  she better


It is a beautiful day -  after breakfast I took the four children and went to Father Badgers at West End.  spent the whole day  found Licinia sick.  She preparing to move.

I went down town to day.  Had Sheridan a buff suit stamped  went to Mr Hiltons.  he took me all over his house.  it is quite handsome.  Mrs Parsons called to see me - also Miss Tucker  letter from home say all better.  I went with all the children to see Mrs Duffield.

I went out a little while this morning.  Mrs Sharp called to see me.  [[Lidy?]] Duffield spent the day with us.  Mr Thomas & Mr Fisher spent the evening with us.  Licinia moved in to day.
Friday July 24th
It looks like rain  -  we need it much.  everything is suffering for it.  I went down to see Licinia.  she still quite unwell.  I then went down town shopping.  it rained -  after tea Mr Badger myself and three children all went to the Theatre to see Warren - all our relations were there.

It looks like rain to day. I did not go to church. Mr Badger gone to Sunday School. no news from home to day. I was very anxious to go to Louisville to night - but my Husband thinks I had better wait for a dispatch. I am very uneasy about Mattie - she is my little neice [sic] but with spine disease . and very delicate.

It is cool and pleasant a dispatch came to day saying Mattie was better, so I will not go. we are all well. Morgan the rebel has been defeated in Indiana - many of his men taken but he and many of his men escaped
